n
playing the older Thief I couldn't help but notice that the maps are far
more sketchier than in Thief 2. More realistic, kinda fun since you have
no idea what to expect, but much harder to play as getting lost can happen,
alot.
Start by heading south and around the turn. After
you pass the ticking power thingy, near the second lamp, look on your
left for an inset in the wall. It contains an arrow cache of broadhead
and water arrows that could come in handy. Continue your path to
an intersection. Take the east path. Sneak or club the patrolling guard
and follow the sound of the hiccups until you find the drunk guard. Get
the key from his belt and use it to open the door behind him. Jump
in the well and swim with the current. As you pass through the room with
the water falling from the ceiling, look down for an opening. It connects
to the spider cave, a Thief: Gold addition for this mission. Enter the
manor through the large crack in the wall. Pass through the door into
the next room. Let the guards finish their conversation before moving
in to clean up. From the position where they conversed, head east down
into the darkness. Turn right, up the stone steps, then left across the
metal floor to a wooden crate. Grab the two flashbombs from it
and head north to the end of the hall. Climb the long stone staircase
to the top. Turn around and open the small wooden crate to grab some gold
coins (Total: 5).
Hmmmm..... what's cooking?
Exit the room, turn left and follow the hall
until you reach an intersection. Turn left and go straight. Proceed to
the end of the hall and enter the door on your right. From this storeroom
follow the humming sounds to your left. Grab the golden vase (Total:
105) from behind the servant. Return to the hallway. Head north
to the banner. Turn left, open the door, and show the guard the true meaning
of drunken bliss by giving him a taste of B&J (the blackjack). Drag
his body back into the darkness in case you miss finding the one guard
that patrols here.
Continue past the area guarded by the drunk and
out into one of the two main hallways running the length of the first
floor. Move to its west end and through the door. Turn left and grab a
silver coin stack (Total: 117) resting
atop a small table. Return to the large hallway and go through the door
on your right. On your immediate left grab the gold dining plate, and
jeweled vase (Total: 217). Move south
through the room and out the other side to the other main hallway for
the first floor.

What is it with the rich weirdos and their art collections.
Turn right, through the door, then
turn right again and nab the jeweled cup (Total:
232) from the wooden bench. Exit back into the hallway and climb
the steps on your right. Get the gold vase (Total:
332) from the bookshelf then climb the flight of wooden steps.
Get the golden vase (Total: 432) from
the table. You might wish to douse the torch here for some safety from
the guard patrolling the nearby hallway. It will also create a nice dark
area in which to hide his body.
Moving On Up
From this room enter the hallway
on your left. Turn right and walk to its end and through the door. Turn
right and grab the tiny ring (Total: 532)
from atop the bookshelf. Walk east out the other end of the room. Two
guards patrol this area, you'll need to get a key from one of them. The
trick is to stay on the carpet and avoid the marble parts of the floor.
If you time your jumps right you can avoid the marble by hopping across
from one piece of carpet to another. By staying on the carpet you'll have
a good shot and blackjacking the guards without much problem. Check every
room along this hall as all of them have stuff worth taking. The dinning
room has a two bottles of wine (Total: 632)
on a table while what appears to be Lord Bafford's Bedroom contains four
stacks of coins and a gold crown (Total:
805). More loot can be found if you wish to hunt through other
parts of the manor but I'll leave it up to you as the loot objective has
been met.
While traversing this hallway you should have
noticed a small set of steps leading to a lowered area containing two
doors. Use the key you got from one of the guards patrolling this floor
to open one of the doors. Inside is a room with one stationary guard.
You can either fire off four water arrows to douse all the torches
then blackjack the guard by leaning forward. Another method is to throw
a flashbomb at his feet when he faces he. This makes blackjacking
him much easier.
One Small Step for
Thiefdom
With the guard out, move into the
room that he blocked and grab the scepter from the wall. Getting out of
the manor is straightforward. Get back to the first floor. Move the the
main hallway that runs on the north side of the manor. Check your map
and you'll see a mark that indicates access to the city streets. Its located
between the two staircases connecting the second floor. Don't forget to
use the switch underneath the lamp to open the gate so you can escape.
